What to consider when choosing the perfect evening dress.

When choosing a gown it is important to try looking for something unique but versatile and classic enough. Additionally, the style of the gown will need to flatter and complement your figure. When you put that evening dress on you must not only look beautiful but feel beautiful as well.

Classic evening dress designs in 2016.

To help you in choosing the perfect evening dress we had a look at what timeless designs were most popular in 2016 as chosen by our favorite actresses and artists on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards and the Oscars in 2016:

  1. Mermaid Dress with Sweetheart Neckline.

This is one of the most flattering designs you can choose for your evening out with your special one(s). The mermaid dress is cinched at the waist and flared out at about the knee. This cut brings out your curves and femininity.

Although the top of the gown comes in many variations, the sweetheart neckline still remains the most popular part of this dress. This could be either worn as a strapless gown or with straps.

The mermaid and sweetheart combination was a big hit last year- we can’t forget Ariana Grande looking ravishing in red with her mermaid cut dress with an extended trail. The top featured a classic sweetheart with spaghetti straps. Selena Gomez wore a blue sequined number with a smaller train and Nazanin Mandi took this to the next level with a two-piece consisting of a sweetheart brassiere style top matched with a mermaid skirt featuring a high waist in black.

  1. A-Line Full Skirted Ball Gown.

This elegant evening dress will always be a favorite. The fuller skirt is great if you don’t want something figure hugging especially when the skirt begins to flare from the waist. You will appear dreamlike as it looks as if you are gliding across the floor when you walk.

Sofia Vergara Wore an inky blue gown with an A-line double layered skirt with a ruffle detail down the side. Alicia Vikander wore the A-line ball gown with ballooning at the hem in pale yellow.

  1. Plunging Necklines.

If you are looking for something more daring and super sexy consider a plunging neckline. This cut works well for ladies that have small or medium sized breast. As you can’t wear a bra with this kind of dress, a supermodel trick with this design is to use double sided tape on the inside of the gown. This is to prevent any peek-a-boo moments.

The sultry Charlize Theron wore a plunging neckline down to her navel in red while Saoire Ronain rocked the plunge in a dazzling teal green in a metallic almost scale-like fabric.

We hope that when purchasing a gown that you keep these designs in mind. If the stars continue to wear these popular cuts year after year, you too could shine in one of them.
